I've been to New York City! In high school, my jazz choir made an award winning performance there without me. The trip went over a Sunday, and I'd made the decision to stay home. Going to New York had long been a dream of mine, but for some crazy reason, I was OK with sitting out on this one. I'd like to keep the Sabbath day holy. "Holy" can be a subjective term. What one chooses to do or not do on Sunday is a personal choice. I haven't mastered the principle, and maybe the trip would've been in keeping with my definition of "holy". However, in high school, it was good for me to keep things black and white, so today, when life is a little more challenging, I have the necessary foundation to build from.

When I received a scholarship to attend the National Art Education Annual Convention in New York City three years later, I was shocked. I never imagined I'd have the money to make a trip across the country-- Other things, like a college education, food, and housing took precedence on my highly practical list of expenditures. New York, had been a day dream, and all at once, it wasn't.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art was astounding, to say the least. As a little kid, I remember standing in front of artworks at museums for minutes, amazed at artists' use of color really. Art rarely does that for me anymore. There were, however, a few exceptions at the MET: (1) The Medieval Gallery; (2) Vermeer; (3) The Baroque Gallery; and (4) The Stained Glass image as seen as the Title Image of this blog. Isn't she lovely?

It was really important to keep it black and white in high school, wasn't it? I'm glad I did. It was also nice to be able to say "my mom won't let me."

You need to come visit us!!! We will take you to the cloisters (its part of the Met, but not downtown.) And you would like the Frick probably. And if you stayed a whole week you could spend a few hours in all the museums for free. Like the Whitney, and Guggenhiem.

Come after you graduate! send out Graduation announcements and save all the money for another trip to NYC!

As hard as it was you made the right choice. The purpose of the choir performance was nice but not holy. Many who did not understand "Keep the Sabbath Day Holy" kept saying preforming in the Lincoln Center on Sunday was a once in a life time opportunity. The funny thing was those people also did not understand you only one life time to prove you will choose to live in a way that will please God.
